(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA  Updated Oct. 22, 2015)  After meeting with residents at the first public meetings for the Half-Cent Transportation Sales Tax election, the City of Stillwater received questions about what transportation projects will be funded should the public vote to continue the sales tax Tuesday, Nov. 10.

According to Transportation Director Jason Peek, Ph.D, P.E., the City anticipates completing the following transportation improvement projects in the near future. Should the half-cent sales tax be renewed, the funds will help the City in the planning, designing and construction of these projects:

  • Sangre Road ( 6th to 19th avenues): Project will include widening, intersection improvements and pedestrian/bike improvements.
  • Duck Street (Hall of Fame to 6th Avenue): Project will include street reconstruction, intersection improvements and bike/pedestrian improvements.
  • Country Club Road ( 6th to 19th avenues): Project will include widening, intersection improvements and pedestrian/bike improvements.
  • 12th Avenue (Main Street to Perkins Road): Project will include widening, intersection improvements and pedestrian/bike improvements.
Funds from the half-cent sales tax are dedicated solely to projects that improve Stillwater’s streets, traffic signal systems, sidewalks, bridges and bikeways.

Voters will consider whether to renew the Half-Cent Transportation Sales Tax Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015. The current tax was authorized in 2001, reauthorized in 2006 and is set to expire in 2016. If approved, the sales tax would continue through October 2026.

There are more public meetings and councilor coffee hours scheduled before the election to give residents an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the City’s transportation department.
