Cowboys Roll Past Lamar in Final Tune-Up Before Big 12 Play

Final score: 59 - 3

(Stillwater, Okla) It was all Oklahoma State, all evening long as a spread out ground attack spurred the #12 Cowboys to a 59-3 dismissal of Lamar in its final non-conference contest before Big 12 play begins.

Quarterback J.W. Walsh's 45 yard performance was tops amongst Cowboy rushers, who as a team combined for merely 155 yards. But numbers can be deceiving, and that was certainly the case tonight as the Pokes were able to squeeze 5 rushing scores, 3 coming from Jeremy Smith, out of a ground game that on paper would look seemingly pedestrian.

To start the 2nd half, wide out Josh Stewart sparked another 3-score quarter with a 67 yard punt return TD just 3 minutes into the half, while former high school teammate J.W. Walsh tossed his first touchdown pass of the night to Blake Jackson for a 2 yard score. At 45-3, State's starters gave way to the second team who didn't disappoint, with backup signal caller Clint Chelf rushing for one score before connecting with Blake Webb on a 16 yard pitch and catch in the 4th quarter to complete the Cowboy route, 59-3.

Oklahoma State goes into the bye week at 3-0, with two weeks to prepare for the long trip to Morgantown when they kick off Big 12 play against the Mountaineers of West Virginia on September 28th.
